Major
global companies like Microsoft, Sun Microsystem, IBM,
and Cisco have already set up their bases in the DIC.
More companies will also start operations from DIC in
the next two years. DICs Chief Executive Officer
Omar Bin Sulieman says that DIC is a viable investment
for the people.
The number of companies in DIC will increase to 500
by the year-end. There are 400 companies operating in
the city but UAE nationals form only nine per cent of
the total workforce in Dubais private sector.
Asians
make up 80.56 percent and Arab expatriates total 7.61
per cent while Europeans comprise 2.01 per cent, according
to government statistics. These figures exclude government
departments and international organisations. About 4,37,248
employees are working in 37,775 organisations across
the emirate, including 4,00,764 men and 36,484 women.
The total number of Asians working in these establishments
is 3,81,500, including 3,55,240 men and 26,260 women.
The
number of Arab expatriates totals 36,027, including
31,207 men and 4,820 women while the European workforce
in the emirate accounts for 9,527, including 6,500 men
and 3,027 women. UAE nationals comprise 6,569, including
5,101 men and 1,468 women. The rest 3,625 belong to
other regions. About 26,973 employees live outside Dubai.
Trading and repairs sectors employ the highest number
of workers 1,42,580 in 21,492 establishments,
including 1,24,184 Asians followed by 81,272
in 3,687 establishments in manufacturing and 78,829
employed in 1,578 companies in the construction sector.
Hotels and restaurants employ 33,266 in 2,238 establishments.
